How to Choose Reference Photos for a Felted Pet Portrait

A custom portrait begins long before the first fibres are shaped. The photographs you send help us understand the expression, proportions and markings that make your pet recognisable.

Start with one clear favourite

Choose a sharp photograph taken in natural light and close to your pet's eye level. The primary image should show the expression you would most like the portrait to carry. Try to avoid filters, heavy shadows and motion blur.

Add angles that answer practical questions

A three-quarter or side view helps with muzzle length, ear position and head shape. For a full-body figurine, an additional image of the back, tail and paws can reveal markings that the main photograph does not show.

Tell us what the camera misses

Photographs do not always reproduce coat colour perfectly. Use the notes on the product page to tell us about warm or cool tones, small patches of colour, favourite accessories and the pose or expression you prefer.

What happens after ordering

We review every set of reference images before production begins. If a detail is unclear, we will email you for another angle rather than guessing. This review is part of the normal 2–3 week making schedule after photo approval.
